Giants closing in on a deal to trade Olivier Vernon to the Browns, per source. Deal close now.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 8, 2019
Rumors swirled throughout the week that the Browns and Giants were in trade talks centered around WR Odell Beckham Jr but rumors died down after reports came out that New York’s front office were not all on board with moving the star receiver. Instead, the Browns and Giants agreed on a deal Friday morning that would send Browns OG Kevin Zeitler and a 2019 5th round pick to New York for DE Olivier Vernon and a 2019 4th round pick. Zeitler, who the Browns signed to a 5 year contract in 2017, gives the Giants much needed help on an offensive line that allowed 47 sacks in 2018. Olivier Vernon, who is signed through the 2020 season, adds a veteran pass rushing presence to the Browns young front 7. The move also allows for 2018 2nd round draft pick Austin Corbett to move into the now vacant right guard spot on the Browns offensive line. The deal will be official when the new league year begins next Wednesday.
